We walked along the canals, some frozen solid, some with icy patches broken up by the canal ferries and boats. Everyone walked close together, to stave off the icy blasts of wind. Hands frozen, even with winter gloves. Ears frozen if you dared to step outside without a hat or hood.
Despite the ice, wind and crowds, I watched the world around me with glittering eyes. This world of canals, art, history, freedom, Anne Frank, Rembrandt, and coffee houses.
Enchanting. Delightful. Bustling. And me with the glittering eyes watching it all go by.
