My name is Ron, short for my middle name, Ronaldo. “Where does “Reyn” come from?” you ask. It’s short for Reynaldo (that was my name in Spanish class and is the affectionate name my wife calls me). My first name is actually Cleve. (Confused yet? 🙂 )
I’ve always had a wild and active imagination. I remember my brother and I making up epic adventures for our Christmas tree ornaments. Or shooting my first “movie” on a super 8mm camera—a time-travel caper shot on location at Disneyland (I was about 8). I wouldn’t be until 20 years later I’d pursue my passion for storytelling as a filmmaker. And for the past 20+ years, I’ve been blessed to tell all kinds of wonderful stories using the medium of film (well, technically, it’s video, but you get the idea). And now I can say that I’m truly an international filmmaker. As pretentious and hyperbolic as that sounds, it’s true!
Growing up as a kid, and even into adulthood, the farthest I’d ever been outside the continental United States were a few trips to the U.S. Virgin Islands to visit my dad’s parents, and requisite collegiate and post-collegiate trips to Mexican border towns. Although technically, you can say a trip to Mexico is an international trip, come on, let’s be honest—if you grow up in California, college trips to Tijuana hardly count as “world travel.”
Then I met/married Mystère. And she dreamed of going to Paris one day. The city of lights. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that one day I would actually find the time and money to travel to Europe. So her dreams were just that to me…dreams.
But then a car accident in the fall of 2011 changed everything. Mystère was hit while walking in a crosswalk, and thrown 6′ into the air. After that everything changed. Realizing that life was too short, the following year we went to Paris to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. And I was bitten by the travel bug. Two family European trips followed in 2015 and 2016. And in the summer of that year, after much hinting and coaxing, Myst inspired us to do what so many only dream about doing: traveling the world. And I’m excited to use my gifts as a writer and filmmaker to tell some amazing stories of people and places around the globe.
