The quote from Anne Frank has it in the right order…
Whoever is happy will make others happy too.
She doesn’t write that you have to make others happy and then you’ll be happy. Many people, places, organizations tell you that to be happy you have make others happy first. I think that’s backward. I think that if you are truly happy, in a contented, harmonious, peaceful type of way, then your happiness will shine through to those around you.
Your energy will lead others to adjust and alter their energy. Always? Probably not.
Yet, here Anne Frank is as a teenager hiding for her life, and she pens these words. There must be a reason she chose that order. And there is also an unspoken truth which is…
Whoever is unhappy will make others unhappy too.
We are all connected, deeply intertwined in our hearts, minds, and lives. Our general state of being affects all others, even if only in subtle and seemingly hidden ways. As we adjust our mental, physical and spiritual attitude and state, it will affect others. Maybe not immediately, like taking a bullet pill, but maybe sooner than you might expect.
Where could you find more harmony and contentment today? Where could you spread more happiness and love? Where could you release and let go of resentment, anger and bitterness?
If you can’t do it for yourself, do it for Anne.
